Guidelines for Goals and Objectives

Page history last edited by blo@... 1 year, 10 months ago

Goals

Goals give you direction.  They should be global, not too specific, and do not need to be measurable.  You should ask yourself, "Where do we see ourselves in 3-5 years?" for each area.

Goal Examples:

  1. Students will become proficient in math and language arts California Content Standards.
  2. Certificated staff will become proficient at teaching with online resources.
  3. Teachers and parents will use technology to enhance home-school communication.

Objectives

Objectives contribute to the fulfillment of goals and help you determine if you have met your 3-5 year goal.

They must be:

  • Measurable
  • Defined/Specific/Operational
  • Manageable

An Objective must be measurable:

Who will you measure?

  • 80% of middle school students will...
  • 75% of certificated staff will...
  • 60% of elementary school parents will...

An Objective must be defined:

What will they do? (Make sure it supports your goal.  Think measurable.)

  • 80% of middle school students will use multimedia applications to develop a class presentation
  • 75% of certificated staff will become proficient at integrating online resources into the core curriculum
  • 60% of elementary school parents will use the Parent Portal to check student attendance and grades

Benchmarks

Annual progress towards the 3-5 year objective.

Year 1 Benchmark

60% of middle school students will use multimedia applications to develop a class presentation.

Year 2 Benchmark

70 % of middle school students will use multimedia applications to develop a class presentation.

Year 3 Benchmark

80 % of middle school students will use multimedia applications to develop a class presentation.

Implementation Plan

This is where the idea is moved from concept to reality.  The implementation includes activities that will be used to meet the annual benchmarks.  It answers these questions:

  • What are the activities that will help to reach the yearly benchmarks?
  • What is my timeline to conduct the activities?
  • Who will be responsible for carrying out the activities?
  • How will I evaluate and monitor the progress towards the benchmarks?
  • What kind of data will I collect to demonstrate this growth?

Activities:

All activities need to support your objective and goals. Activities can be:

  • Student products/projects
  • Programs such as AR, CyberSMART, Reading Counts
  • Field trips
  • Guest speaker (Person in charge of cyber crime division speaking on internet predators and how to safe guard)
  • Day to day things taking place in classroom to fulfill benchmarks objectives and goals.
