Tech Planning Steps

Preparing to write:

The first step is to review the expiring technology plan if there is one. After that, consult this wiki. It will guide the district, COE, or direct-funded charter school on issues from who should be included in tech planning discussions to guiding questions for each section's discussion.

Writing the plan:

Once the stakeholders have met, the writing team has been established, and the Technology Planning Wiki has been reviewed, it's time to get writing. Begin by looking at Guidelines and Appendix C for the EETT Formula Grant. This is the criteria that determines which plans pass state-level review. Consider using the TechPlanBuilder, developed by CTAP 11.  Contact your CTAP 6 representative (see below). CTAP can assist as the team plans and  writes, or, at least,  provide feedback as sections are finished.

 E-rate:

Note that an approved EETT technology plan is acceptable for E-rate application purposes. However, an approved E-rate technology plan is acceptable for the E-rate program only. It is not acceptable for the Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) or any other state-administered technology program, such as the K-12 Education Technology Voucher Program. Beginning in FY2011, Erate tech plans are required for Priority 2 services ONLY (internal connections and basic maintenance of internal connections). The budget requirement in the Erate tech plans has been eliminated. For Erate purposes, a tech Plan must be “written” prior to posting Form 470 for priority 2 services and must cover all the 12 months of those services.  The plan must include any priority 2 services for which the Erate discounts are sought.

Submit the plan:
Before you submit the plan, review the technology plan to make sure everything is in order. Submit the technology plan to CTAP Region 6;  Submit your plan as one RTF or Word document and include the following items in the submission:.

  • Body of the technology plan

  • Appendix C, Criteria for EETT-Funded Education Technology Plans with corresponding page numbers

  • Appendix IDistrict/charter contact information

AB 307: Chavez Bill

The passage of the Chavez Bill (Assembly Bill 307) impacts technology planning. This bill charges districts to “educate pupils and teachers on the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom, Internet safety, avoiding plagiarism, the concept, purpose, and significance of a copyright so that pupils can distinguish between lawful and unlawful online downloading, and the implications of illegal peer-to-peer network file sharing.” This bill shows up as additional items in the planning criteria found in the grant application (Appendix C). <View the legislation>
